Ted. A few
weeks ago, Judy came across a great travel quote. The author had an Arabic
name, which we found intriguing so I did a little research. You can read the
details about Muhammad Ibn Battuta yourself in Wikipedia but the gist is that
this man, who was born and died in Tangier, Morocco, was one of the greatest
travelers of all time. Between 1325 and 1354, he wandered throughout most of
the known world, venturing as far as China.
History buffs might enjoy a
BBC4 three part video series (available on YouTube) called “Ibn Battuta: The Man
Who Walked Across the World.”
Having watched the series, it
just felt right to pay our respects at this man’s tomb when we were in Tangier.
Standing in front of the humble building, I could relate to something Ibn
Battuta said over 600 years ago:
“Traveling
- it leaves you speechless,
then
turns you into a storyteller.”
