Ted. Every major traffic intersection is an impromptu stage here in Santiago, Chile.
Clever performers juggle anything and everything for tips. We have seen
street performers before but nobody can match these men and women for their
physical efforts. I guess they are famous throughout South America and Judy said they were even mentioned in an Isabel Allende novel she just finished
When the light changes, they
jump out in front of the cars that are slowing to a stop (death defying in itself), put on a show lasting 60
seconds or so and then walk up between the cars to receive their modest tips. They get a brief rest but then the light changes again and it's back to work. They seem to work all day long. One creative woman we saw juggled fire torches after dark.
