Ted. We had
no idea what we would find when we arrived in Buenos Aires on New Year's Day to begin a three-month tour of the southernmost
countries in South America. Everything was not perfect. In all three countries,
there was visible poverty right beside vast wealth, with Argentina
being the most tragic example of an economy run off the tracks. My eyes often burned from the air pollution in
Santiago, Chile.
I tried to follow Judy’s advice about protecting my valuables on the subway in Santiago but a clever pickpocket was still able to grab my iPhone. But in the end, the trip exceeded my expectations. We had many wonderful experiences but here are a few I will never forget:

I tried to follow Judy’s advice about protecting my valuables on the subway in Santiago but a clever pickpocket was still able to grab my iPhone. But in the end, the trip exceeded my expectations. We had many wonderful experiences but here are a few I will never forget:
· Savoring
the best steak ever at Caldén
del Soho in Buenos Aires.
· Eating
the best chocolate this side of Belgium at Mamuschka in Bariloche, Argentina
(northern Patagonia).
· Spotting
an Andean condor while hiking in Llao Llao municipal park near Bariloche.
· Cocktails
and conversation with Santiago and Eugenia in the lounge of the Llao Llao Hotel.
· Walking
the Rambla in Montevideo, Uruguay.
· Enjoying
a Uruguayan asado in the home of Rafa and Lucia.
· Watching
the street jugglers in Santiago, Chile.
· Shooting
the breeze with guys from the men’s group at Santiago Community Church.
Hiking Cerro San Cristóbal with men's group buddies |
· Discussing
movies and life in Chile with Joel on our terrace of our apartment in Santiago.
· Exploring
La Serena, Chile during a rendezvous with our Canadian cruising buddies, Sylvie and
Gilles.
· Stargazing
with Judy, poolside in Pisco Elqui (northern Chile).
